Monster truck driver to appeal prison term for fatal stunt
Stunt driver Mario D. is appealing against the ruling of the Almelo court in a 2014 monster truck accident that killed three people and seriously injured 28 others. According to D.'s lawyer the court "assumed an excessively high degree of guilt", AD reports.
D. was convicted of death through negligence and sentenced to 15 months in prison. He's also not allowed to work as stunt driver for five years and his driver's license was suspended for four years. The foundation that organized the fatal event in Haaksbergen in September 2014, Sterevenementen, was given a 25 thousand euro fine.
"How unfortunate it may be for the victims ans survivors, in our opinion the court assumed an excessively high degree of guilt", lawyer Rob Oude Breuil said to the newspaper. "The court wrongly imposed a prison sentence instead of community service."
