At least two arrest in Wilders anti-Ukraine rally, counter-protest
Two people were arrested and three people were fined during Geert Wilders' anti-Ukraine association agreement rally in Dordrecht on Saturday, NU.nl reports.
The two detainees were arrested for continually insulting police officers. The three others were fined for trying to hang a banner where it was not allowed. The trio wanted to hang a white sheet with anti-Wilders text over the Drechtseden tunnel. The police fined them because it endangered road safety.
Wilders was in Dordrecht to convince people to vote "no" in the referendum on the association agreement between the EU and Ukraine, scheduled for Wednesday. He handed out flyers and took photos with bystanders.
A counter protest also drew a lot of attention by hanging banners of a line drawn through Wilders' face across the city, including on the tower of the Grote Kerk.
On Friday Wilders had a similar campaign in Maastricht on Friday. There his efforts were drowned out by counter-protesters shouting slogans like “no man, no woman, no one is illegal” and “say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here”.
