Dutch prison increasingly popular with Norwegian convicts
Norwegian convicts are increasingly willing to be voluntarily transferred to Dutch prison Norgehaven in Veenhuizen, which Norway has been renting since September.
Convicts initially had to be forced to transfer, now there is something of a "small waiting list", Norwegian director of the Dutch prison Karl Hillesland said to RTV Drenthe.
Norwegian convicts are informed about the Dutch prison with a video. In the Netherlands, prisoners are let out more often than in Norway and they have to work less. And as the Netherlands is so far away from Norway, the prisoners in the Dutch prison have more time to all family members and a special Skype-calling room was set up.
According to RTV Drenthe, this is good reason for a growing number of prisoners to decide they'd rather serve their sentence in the Netherlands.
