"Chaos": Witnesses detail train derailment that left one dead

Total chaos, is how eyewitness Ria van der Ham describes the scene near Dalfsen where an Arriva passenger train crashed into a crane on Tuesday morning. Van der Ham witnessed the accident from nearby campsite Tolhuis. "It's a mess, really terrible" Van der Ham said to broadcaster NOS. According to Van der Ham, the accident happened as the crane was crossing the tracks. "The crane waited for the first train and then made the crossing. A train came from the other direction and hit the crane full on." the witness said. "The crane is in pieces. The front of the train is completely knocked away." A Telegraaf journalist on the scene reports that people with minor injuries are being treated in a neighbor's home. A neighbor told the newspaper that he heard a loud bang, as if a container filled with stone crashed to the ground. The Mayor of Dalfsen confirmed that at least one person were killed in the accident. The exact number of people injured and the extent of those injuries are unknown.
