Plainclothes cop beaten up on Boxing Day; three teens arrested

The police arrested three teenagers in their homes in Sint-Jansteen and Hulst on Wednesday. The boys are suspected of assaulting a police officer on December 26th. The incident happened on Badhuisweg in Sint Jansteen. The police officer was not on duty when the incident happened and was wearing civilian clothes. The officer saw a group of young people sitting on the football grandstand who seemed to be throwing glass. Moments later he was talking to a boy when other boys charged him and started punching and kicking the officer. He sustained several injuries. The police immediately launched an investigation, which led them to these three teenagers - two 17 year old boys and a 16 year old boy, all from Hulst. They are in custody in Torentijd in Middelburg and will be questioned.
