Nijntje on display at Rijksmuseum’s Dick Bruna retrospective
Nijnte, the small rabbit featuring in a series of picture books known as Miffy in English, is currently on display in the Rijksmuseum. The famous rabbit forms part of a retrospective on the work of Dick Bruna, graphic designer, illustrator and writer.
This is the first time that Bruna's work will be displayed in an art historical context, according to Nieuws.nl. And as Bruna's most famous creation, Nijnte obviously had to have a place.
The exhibition contains posters, book covers and graphic works, which will be displayed alongside works by some of Bruna's biggest examples, such as the French artist Henri Matisse and Fernand Leger.
Annemies Broekgaarden, head of public and education at the museum, is very excited about this exhibition. "Mid-nineties there was still a taboo to have the work of Dick Bruna as part of the Rijksmuseum collection", she said to Nieuws.nl.
