Amersfoort man held after threatening to blow up his flat

A police SWAT team removed a disturbed man from his apartment on Kapelweg in Amersfoort on Thursday afternoon. The man refused to leave his home and the police were concerned that he might hurt himself. The emergency services were called in around 2:00 p.m. after neighbors noticed a strange odor, RTV Utrecht reports. The police called in a trained negotiator when the man refused to leave. As a precaution, the man's neighbors were evacuated from their homes and the gas was shut off. The man was eventually removed by a SWAT team and taken away in an ambulance.
