Train crashes into stolen car

A car thief caused a considerable amount of havoc in Hooglanderveen on Thursday after causing an accident with a train. The thief stole a car with a trailer attached from the municipality of Nijkerk. During his flight, the thief ignored the signals next to the track indicating that a train was approaching and was hit by the oncoming train, NOS reports. The train hit the rear end of the car and the trailer. The man escaped the accident unscathed and fled on foot. He was arrested a short time later. Nobody got hurt in the incident, but the police called it a "perilous action", according to the broadcaster. Train traffic between Amersfoort and Zwolle was disrupted for a short time while the aftermath of the accident was cleared up.
