Student wins lawsuit over Univ. Amsterdam for study delay
The University of Amsterdam has to pay thousands of euros in compensation to a student because he suffered a 6 month study delay through no fault of his own.
According to AT5, the student was unable to register for compulsory subjects in the first semester due to a technical fault on the last day of registration. The student complained, but the university told him that he could still not register.
The court ruled that the university acted unlawfully. The student is entitled to compensation of almost 10 thousand euros because the university's actions led to a study delay. The UvA believes that the student should have gone to the study adviser to find a solution, but the judge did not accept this. According to the judge, the university repeatedly stated that "no registration means no education".
