Amsterdam jobless to promote fire safety
A number of unemployed people are currently being trained to help the fire department in Nieuw-West, Amsterdam by informing local residents about fire safety, the municipality announced this morning.
A total of 48 people are currently receiving training, RTL reports. The first participants will receive a certificate on Thursday. Helping the fire department also helps the unemployed people as they gain work experience and are being prepared for finding a job. The participants are not only receiving training from the fire brigade, but are also doing courses that teach them to better apply for jobs and have more self-confidence.
The intention is that these informers will visit 4 thousand homes in Nieuw-West over the next three months. This is part of the fire departments plan to reduce the number of fires, victims and damage caused by fire in the coming years.
