Driver takes off on foot after fatal head-on collision

One of the drivers involved in a fatal head-on collision on Empelseweg in Rosmalen on Sunday night fled the scene of the accident on foot. The police are looking for this man and have called on witnesses to come forward. The accident happened around 6:45 p.m. near the Emplina football club. The two vehicles hit each other head on. The one car ended up in a ditch and the other car caught fire. The driver of the car that ended up in the ditch, a 78 year old woman from 's-Hertogenbosch, died at the scene. Her passenger, an 80 year old man also from 's-Hertogenbosch, was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. The cause of the accident is not clear. The driver of the other car managed to get out of the car unaided and fled the scene on foot. It is not clear why he ran away. A spokesperson for the police told Omroep Brabant that the car was very likely not stolen. The police have launched an investigation based on the vehicle's license plate, which led the police to a house on Schoolstraat in Rosmalen. The occupant of the house is believed to be the owner of the car. "We want to reiterate that the owner of the car is not necessarily the driver who fled", the police said.
