Power restored in Maastricht after hours-long outage

Power has been restored to all households in Maastricht, Valkenburg, Bertg en Terbijt and Cadier en Keer after an hours long power outage. The power went out around 21:15 on Wednesday night. About 16 thousand households were affected, NU reports. Enexis restored power to most of the households around midnight. The last 2,500 households were supplied with electricity using emergency generators around 01:15 a.m. on Thursday. A spokesperson for the fire department told the newspaper that the power outage was caused by a short circuit in a transformer box on Edisonstraat in Maastricht, which then caught fire. Enixis technicians could not assess the damage at the switch station as the situation was too dangerous for them to go inside. The fire department and Enexis will assess the damage during the course of Thursday morning.
