De Mol extortionist released on health grounds

The man suspected of extorting television producer John de Mol and his sister, presenter Linda de Mol, has been released from jail, reports NOS. Dirk Klaas M., a 70-year old man from Zeist, suffers from a severe form of dementia, and doctors believe his health would further deteriorate if he stayed in his cell any longer. Appealing on health grounds, both the suspect's lawyer and the court requested a provisional sentence, on which they both agreed on. The prosecution did not oppose the release. The court ruled to take away the suspect's passport and served him with a restraining order. He is to appear before the court again on June 18. Last year, the man threatened Linda de Mol's children, insisting that a large sum of money be transferred to his bank account.
