Driver that struck baby was drunk, neighbors say

Gerrit G., who killed a one month old baby in a hit-and-run accident in Lutten last week, has now admitted that he had been driving under the influence. His family told neighbors, De Telegraaf reports. It is an open secret in Lutten that before the accident, G. spent some time in the local pub, which is less than a kilometer away from his house. According to a neighbor, G. realizes what a horrible thing he has done and "is in shock". Mother Ellen posted a heartbreaking message to her deceased baby on Facebook. "Dearest dearest Milan I miss you so! Why did this happen now, you were with us for such a short time", she writes. "You are the best thing that happened to me... and what has happened now is my worst nightmare. I just can not do without you Milan."
