Explosion at ATM causes building evacuation

The bombing of an ATM on Hoofdstraat in Kerkrade led to a building evacuation early on Thursday Morning. The bombing happened just after 05:00 a.m. A total of 11 residents had to be evacuated from their homes because the building caught fire after the explosion. Firefighters were quickly at the scene and had the fire under control around 06:00 a.m. Based on initial investigation details, the police suspect that two or three perpetrators were involved. They fled the scene in a white car. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team as well as forensic detectives performed an investigation at the scene. Thus far it is not yet clear whether the thieves managed to steal anything.
