Women extorted after Tinder dates with "digital loverboys"

Justice and the police warn in EenVandaag about a new way of scamming using popular dating sites such as Tinder and Badoo. The targets seem to be especially young women who are looking for a date on the internet. They get trapped by smooth talking and are then threatened and financially extorted. The police in the Hague arrested two men (25 and 30 years old) in Scheveningen last week, EenVandaag reports. They are suspected of large scale extortion, blackmailing and threatening women they recruited through dating sites. Some victims are threatened with the publication of sex photos. Justice calls the suspects "digital loverboys". The suspects operated throughout the Netherlands, including in Brabant, Zuid-Holland and Noord-Holland. Thus far 8 victims have pressed chargers. Many victims do not report these type of crimes to the police because they are ashamed or afraid of the perpetrators.
