Mayors must work with newsrooms on security: Journalist assoc.

The Netherlands Association of Journalists (NVJ) urgently wants to have a consultation with Dick Schoof, the National Coordinator for Counter-terrorism and Security, and the mayors of Amsterdam and Hilversum regarding the safety of journalists, "who are apparently very vulnerable". This is following the incident at NOS last night when Tarik Z. (19) broke into the studio and took a NOS employee hostage. According to the NVJ's website, the association directly made contact with Schoof and the relevant mayors. "The goal is to speak to them as soon as possible to prevent the recurrence of a hostage situation or at least to reduce the risk." The NVJ finds it "very disturbing" that it was so easy for Z. to invade the studio. "his raises questions about the surveillance." the association writes on the website.
