Slick road warning withdrawn for center & east of NL
The slick roads warning for the center and east of the country has been withdrawn. Motorists should still be careful on local roads as they may still be slippery. According to the Traffic Information Service (VID), most of the slickness should disappear during the course of the morning.
According to the Rijkswaterstaat, the main problem early this morning is that the salt spread on the roads was not properly broken in. This is because there are fewer cars on the highways during the holidays than usual.
A speed limit was briefly imposed on some roads. Traffic on the A16 from Antwerp to Rotterdam and on the A58 from Breda to Tilburg was only allowed to drive 50 kilometers per hour. Accidents happened across the country, but as far as is known no one was injured. A car crashed into a police van at Bergen op Zoom.
The slickness caused many problems on the motorways around Rotterdam last night. The Traffic Information Service reported that a car and trailer jackknifed on the A15 towards Gorinchem. A flyover on the Ridderkerk junction had to be closed because it was so slick that trucks could not drive up it. The problems caused kilometers of traffic jams on the motorways around Rotterdam.
