Burglar holds teen hostage in robbery
On Sunday morning the police arrested an 18 year old man in Erp. The suspect trapped the two adult residents of the house and a 2 year old guest in one of the bedrooms. In another bedroom he held the 13 year old son of the residents under threat for some time.
At around 03:00 on Sunday morning one of the residents called the police because he saw burglar in the doorway of his bedroom. When his girlfriend spoke to the stranger, he closed and locked the door, trapping the man and the woman along with a two year old child who was staying with them.
The resident found a way out through an adjoining room and opened the door for the police, assuming that the suspect had already left their home. When the police checked the house they discovered that the 13 year old son's bedroom door was blocked from the inside. Officers forced the door open and found the boy and the unknown man inside. The man was threatening the boy with a pair of scissors.
The suspect was immediately arrested and taken to the police station. No one was injured during this incident. Victim support has been offered to the shocked family.
The police do not rule out that the suspect may have been acting under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
