Angry mob lashes out at paramedics

Paramedics responding to reports of an assault victim Sunday were met by an aggressive group of people who thought the response time was too slow. Police arrived at the scene to protect the ambulance workers as they treated an 18-year-old man who was beaten with a drinking glass. Police were called to the scene on Bergenvaardersstraat in Deventer, Overijssel at about 1:35 a.m., a crime report states. Officers say they drew their batons to keep the group of ten people at bay, striking a 16-year-old boy from Twello, Gelderland. The teen tried shouting down police and ambulance workers, bringing the group of people to the scene. Police say they were forced to pull their batons after a drunk man blocked their attempt to walk away from the situation. After hitting the young offender, the group dispersed, police say. Meanwhile, investigators arrested a 16-year-old from Diepenveen, Overijssel accused of hitting the man with the glass in shop. Police say the incident is still under investigation.
