Online gambling could cause many job losses: report

Operators of casinos and slot machine entrepreneurs fear that the Cabinet's plan to legalize online gambling will lead to major cutbacks in their own sector. Including the Holland Casino establishments, there may be 6 thousand jobs at risk, says industry association VAN Speelautomaten. Many cafes also run the risk of losing customers when they no longer have some slot machines in their property. According to VAN, the legislative proposal - currently with the Second Chamber - will lead to unfair competition. Slot machines have to pay 29 percent gaming tax, while providers of online gambling will only have to pay 20 percent. The gambling games in amusement arcades and cafes are also bound by more rules than games of chance on the internet.
