Rotterdam's new music hall a former gas storage tank

The City of Rotterdam will soon play host to a striking new event hall as Keileweg’s former gas storage tank is transformed into the Ferro Dome. The much-needed venue fills a gap in Rotterdam’s available concert hall space, and is set to open it’s doors at the end of December for a six-month trial run, including a series of dance events, concerts and events for the business market. Dance Valley director and organizer Brian Bout said that the need for a new hall in Rotterdam was obvious. “In Rotterdam, you have Maassilo Club and Ahoy convention center, and nothing in between”, he hold AD.nl. “That is ridiculous for such a big city.” Bout said that he immiedately saw potentional in the retired gas tank, getting goosebumps when he walked in for the first time. “It is huge round walls and a real dome shape. It is a very characteristic building." For content, Bout likens the Dome to the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam, saying that the venue will play host to all different kinds of events. Although open for a trial run at the end of 2014, the Ferro Dome will close again in summer for a major renovation. Organisers hope that by December 2015 the hall will be up and running at full speed.
