Dutch jihadist in Syria defends himself to U.S. reporter

CBS News reporter Clarissa Ward interviewed a 26 year old Dutch jihadist called Yilmaz. Yilmaz was born in Holland. He was a soldier with the Dutch army, but quit when the Special Forces turned him down. This was about the same time that the uprising in Syria began. According to Yilmaz his world was turned upside down by the brutal videos of the Assad regime. "So I felt the need as a person, as a human, and of course as a Muslim, that I had to just stand up and do stuff." he says. Two years ago Yilmaz left the Netherlands without telling his family and traveled to Syria to work as a military trainer with rebel groups. He says that they only things about the West that he misses is the food, warm water and electricity. According to him the West is filled with hypocrisy. Yilmaz does not fight with ISIS, but he won't condemn them either. According to him their crimes pale in comparison with those of the Assad regime.
