Six injured, evacuated in accident
An accident in Kerkrade caused six people to be injured, four of whom are in serious condition. The accident also caused a building at the Carboonplein square to be evacuated, the police reports.
At around 4.30 p.m., a driver seemingly lost control over his car. He drove straight into a woman walking with her child in a stroller. Both of these were injured.
The car also hit a scooter, and a man walking on the pavement with his wife and children. The wife and children did not get injured, but the man did. The driver was injured as well.
The car came to a stop finally when it crashed into the front of a shop. Residents of the apartments above had to be evacuated because the building could have collapsed. Police said they found temporary shelter with friends or family. The fire department is busy scaffolding the building.
The injured people have been brought to hospitals in Heerlen and Maastricht.
