Jeweler who killed burglars gets gun possession charge
Chief Prosecutor Bart Nieuwenhuizen announced at a press conference today that jeweler Willy Sanders (54) will be prosecuted for illegal firearm possession.
Marina Sanders (Willy's wife) shot and killed two burglars with the illegal firearm in March.
Surveillance images of the robbery were shown and the recording of Marina Sanders' 112 call was played during the press conference.
According to Nieuwenhuizen, the first shot Marina fired went right through the burglar's heart as he tried to force his way into the office. The second shot hit the second burglar in the arm. Marina fired two more shots which probably went through the second robber's lungs.
The surveillance images were decisive evidence not to prosecute Marina Sanders for the shooting of the two robbers.
Willy Sanders will be prosecuted for illegal possession of a firearm. "Illegal possession of weapons can not pass muster." says Nieuwenhuizen. The maximum penalty for the illegal possession of a firearm is four years in prison.
