Radio DJ breaks non-stop radio record
Radio 3FM presenter Giel Beelen won the world record for non-stop radio broadcasting. He reached the previous record of 190 hours at 4 a.m, and established his own record an hour later.
Last week Monday, Beelen started his record attempt to celebrate his radio show, the morning program, being on air for ten years. He had to broadcast without stopping, but was allowed to sleep and shower. He had five minute breaks every hour, and three hours every other day.
His victory was celebrated at 5 a.m. with champagne. It is unclear when Beelen will actually stop. The DJ himself says he will hand up his headphones when he stops having fun. He doesn't, however, think he will make it to 200 hours.
The previous record holder was Flemish DJ Lennart Creël, who wasn't able to celebrate his history-making feat for very long as he established his record of 190 only two weeks ago.
