Dutch couple dies after fall from balcony, Portugal
A Dutch man (57) and woman (58) were found dead on the street next to an apartment building in the South-Portuguese city Lagos, in the region of Algarve. It seems that they fell from the balcony of their apartment, which is a drop of about twenty meters. The local authorities are investigating.
It is unclear who the victims are. They were discovered by passers-by at around 12:15 p.m. on the pavement in front of the apartment building.
Emergency services attempted to resuscitate both victims, but to no avail. An autopsy has been scheduled which should offer more conclusive insight into their death. There are no indications that this was a crime.
The Dutch couple owned an apartment on the sixth floor of the building. The luxurious apartment complex is called A Fábrica in Meia Praia, nearby the airport, according to the Portuguese news website Correio da Manhã. The complex is one of dozens of former ceramics factories.
The couples' valuables were still inside their home, and traces of crime could not be found. Inside the apartment complex, there was no evidence of a struggle, the news website reports.
