Opstelten: Told Parliament the truth
Minister Opstelten insists he told Parliament the correct information about the amount of money implicated in the deal between Fred Teeven and drugs baron Cees H.
"I informed Parliament faithfully and truthfully", Opstelten says. The minister is responding to an interview given by lawyer Piet Doedens to De Volkskrant, in which Doedens states that Teeven's deal with H. actually concerns 5 million guilders. This is significantly more than the 1.5 million guilders Opstelten told Parliament in a debate.
Now, the minister is saying "Many amounts have been called up, by me as well." In the Volkskrant interview, Doedens accuses the minister of giving false information, but Opstelten is denying this now.
"The lawyer is speaking for himself, and that is his right", Opstelten says. He also says that he will clarify why the amounts given by Doedens and himself differ. "Then it concerns what you are exactly talking about, and I will put that very precisely on paper once more."
