NL to help fight crime, Curaçao

Minister Ivo Opstelten and his colleague from Curaçao, Nelson Navarro, have had talks which resulted in the promise that the Netherlands is ready to supply "man-power and analysts" to help fight criminality on Curaçao, Navarro announced on Thursday. According to the Curaçaoan minister for Justice, the arrangements will be "concretized" by the two ministers at the end of March in the Netherlands. Navarro could not yet say how many people will be supplied. Curaçao is plagued by many murders and robberies. According to the minister, recent murders in Curaçao include a radio-dj and a young couple of 17 and 23 years old, "as part of a string of murders on the basis of swindling" which was drug-related. The Dutch aid should lead to the criminals and the brains behind the murders being caught. Navarro says he wants to do everything he can to return the peace and feeling of security to the island.
