SP’s Meyer nabs Best Council Member award

Ron Meyer, of the SP council in Heerlen, has been named best council member in the Netherlands. Meyer is also campaign leader for union FNV. Minister Ronald Plasterk (Internal Affairs) spoke admiringly of Meyer, saying that he is socially moved, charismatic and inspirational. The minister announced the winner on Tuesday evening in the talkshow Pauw en Witteman, the night before the municipal council elections. Three other candidates for the award were Anne Kuik (CDA Groningen), Gerdien Rots (ChristenUnie Zwolle) and Vera Tax (PvdA Venlo).
