More women studying engineering
An increasing number of girls choses to enroll in a technical study. The Platform Beta Science registered an increase of 20 percent more female students over the past year. Although men still dominate exact science studies, the percentage of female students is steadily growing.
The growth is also noticeable at universities, where 1,000 more enrolments were registered last year, compared to 2012 with 6,253. 'For 10 years we've invested in good role models and renewing the studies, making them more appealing, and it's paying off,' said Beatrice Boots, board member of the Platform. Boots also thinks the increase of female students in exact sciences is due to the economic crisis. Students expect to more easily find work with a technical study under their belt.
