Wikipedia.org The train driver was not alert enough, according to the prosecution. The serious accident on Saturday, April 21, 2012 left one dead, and 200 others injured. The accident took place in the section between Centraal Station and Sloterdijk station. That section only had one track available that day, due to construction. The driver ran a red light, although she was aware she would come across a red light so an oncoming train could pass. She was distracted because she was on the phone with a train ahead of her over a defective rear-end sign. Partly because observing signs is a main task of a driver, the prosecution is of the opinion the woman should be criminally charged. The Justice department met with the victims of the accident, Tuesday, where they explained the decision to prosecute. About fifteen people attended the meeting. There were over 400 travelers in the train.
