Harsher penalties for violence against families police
Punishment for violence against a family member of a police officer will be considerably harsher from now on, according to the Prosecution. The prosecution wants to demand penalties equal to violence against officers themselves. This was confirmed by a spokesperson Sunday, following statements from Gerard Bouman, head of the National Police, in the TV program "Jinek."

Wikimedia commons Bouman pleaded last week for people who threaten or attack police officers through their family, to get a higher penalty . The higher penalties will only apply to work-related violence. Police Union (ACP) chairman, Gerrit van der Kamp, considers it a first step to address the problem. Research by the ACP revealed that almost 29 percent of the officers or their families are confronted with work-related violence at home. Officers receive mental and physical training to deal with violence at work. It is shocking to learn, however, that violence follows them to their homes and families, according to Bouman. A new study, which is to be performed by the Police Academy, should make clear what the situation is with violence against families of police officers .
