Anyone, entering or leaving the European Union, with more than 10,000 euros in their possession, must declare it at customs. The aim is to counter illegal activities, such as money laundering or terrorist financing. FIOD and military police work together at the airport in the so-called 'Cash Alliance.' The investigating team focuses mainly on smuggling and sources of large amounts of money.
