The innovative schools in Sneek, Breda, Almere, Emmen, Heenvliet and Amsterdam will begin teaching students based on the ideology of the O4NT or Onderwijs voor een nieuwe tijd (Education for a new era), which stresses the function of the iPad in an elementary education setting.
With the latest technogy-based education, each student can reach a"virtual school" using an iPad. This aids them to develop information and communication technology (ICT) and information processing skills, collaboration techniques and critical, problem-solving and creative thinking.
Using the O4NT, teachers will not just pass on knowledge to a group of children but instead they will become coaches to support the pupils with their personal and group projects.
O4NT is proposing a global version of the program called O4NT International that permits Dutch children living abroad to enroll in permanent education with their iPads. The new program is set to start in early 2014.
