Drop in Music Piracy, Thanks to Spotify

Spotify has helped lessen music piracy in the Netherlands and Norway.
Erik Stattin/Wikimedia Commons Although the issue of music piracy has diminished with Napster and Limewire, it remains a concern to be addressed. The RIAA’s keen support of SOPA, ACTA, and CISPA may have benefited music piracy but it is still a significant issue for the industry. According to two studies mentioned by Techdirt, lawful alternatives to digital music piracy can solve the problem. Services like Spotify already contributed to the decrease in piracy. Spotify is a commercial music streaming service which offers Digital Rights Management-protected content from big record labels.
