Dutch music more popular than ever as rap musician Frenna leads Spotify wrapped charts

Rap musician Frenna was the most listened to artist on the streaming platform Spotify this year in the Netherlands. He leads the streaming service’s year-end chart, ahead of Lil Kleine and Ronnie Flex. Spotify users will be able to view their personal Spotify Wrapped summaries from Wednesday.

Taylor Swift topped the streaming charts in 2024, both in the Netherlands and globally. In the Netherlands, Ronnie Flex came second and Frenna third. In 2025, Swift dropped to fifth place in the Dutch rankings.

Globally, the most-streamed song is “Die with a Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, followed by Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” in second place and ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT” in third. Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny topped the album charts with DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS and was also the most-streamed artist worldwide, ahead of Taylor Swift and The Weeknd.

In the Netherlands, Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” was the most-streamed song of the year, ahead of Samuel Welten’s “Echte liefde is te koop” and Frenna & Shallipopi’s “ZAAZAA.” The top-streamed album was Mama I Made It by Roxy Dekker.

According to Spotify, Dutch music is more popular than ever. Users in the Netherlands streamed nearly 2.6 billion hours in total, almost 297,000 years. Dutch tracks made up more than 72 percent of that listening time, up from 68 percent last year. In Spotify’s inaugural 2014 year-end chart, no Dutch artist or song reached the top five.

Zembla’s Op zoek naar Marlotte was the most-streamed podcast in the Netherlands. The series explores the case of an adult woman who pretended to be a child and reached out to the Kindertelefoon with personal issues. A volunteer from the Kindertelefoon subsequently engaged in private contact with the “girl,” which was against the rules.
