King Visits Amsterdam Jewish Office
On Monday, King Willem-Alexander paid his first visit to the headquarters of the Jewish Community of Amsterdam (NIHS) since his inauguration in April, the Jewish Daily Forward reports.
According to Dutch media, some Jews were disappointed that Queen Beatrix’s official send-off celebration is set on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar. The queen last toured the NIHS offices in 2010.
The 46-year-old king went around the NIHS offices with his wife, Queen Maxima and wore a blue yarmulke laced with silver threads. They also visited a synagogue on Jacob Obrecht Square and got together with rabbis, Jewish instructors and delegates.
The new king assured he would come back and said, “See you next time” when he left the NIHS Center.
