Lower Energy Bills

Energy bills will go down significantly in the next few years. According to the Dutch independent organization that supervises competition, telecommunication- and consumer law, Autoriteit Consument & Markt (ACM), the difference could be tens of euros per year. The reason for the lower bills is that network operators have to charge less for the transport of electricity and gas. According to the draft decision, the price reductions for 2014 until 2016 should yield about 500 million euro. The project should balance affordability for consumers and the possibility to invest for network operators. According to RTL.nl the big network operators in the Netherlands, Liander, Stedin, Enexis, Delta and TenneT, are not pleased with the decision. They fear that they will not be able to invest enough. The network operators can appeal to the College of Trade and Industry and the decision of a judge will be conclusive.
