Supermarket Tax Fraud

At least 27 supermarket owners have confessed to the Dutch tax authorities, de Belastingdienst, that they committed fraud by pretending that revenues were lower, according to a documentary shown on Thursday by the Dutch television program Nieuwsuur. The fraudulent entrepreneurs were connected to the supermarket chain Super de Boer, which no longer exists. The Dutch Secretary of Finance said that the entire supermarket sector was under investigation and that high fines were and would be given. NOS.nl reported that the fraud at Super de Boer was discovered last year. The owners pretended that customers returned products and took the ‘refunded money’ themselves.
