A total of 90 people arrested in a large i on Wednesday morning, was announced at a press conference at European judicial cooperation body Eurojust in The Hague. As part of 'Operation Pollino', the police and judiciary in Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium raided various locations.

An explosive was found at a nightclub on Van der Hagenstraat in Zoetermeer on Wednesday evening, the police said on Twitter. Defense's explosive disposal team dismantled it on site.

The police closed down the area around the club at around 9:30 p.m., according to ANP. The Defense team removed the explosive from the site after making sure it would not detonate. 

Where the explosive came from, is not yet clear. The police are investigating.

31 mayors of larger Dutch cities are calling on the Senate not to remove the appointment of mayors from the Dutch constitution, and to keep the procedure as is. Removing the appointment procedure from the constitution is the first step in enabling an elected mayor. The mayors are worried that this will result in them losing their connecting role as "father or mother for all residents, businesses and institutions", they wrote in an open letter to the Senate, the Volkskrant reports.

The environmental federations call this a "turning point" for light pollution in the country. The Netherlands is one of the most illuminated countries in the world, AD reports.

A man who died after being f on Monday morning, was identified as an 18-year-old vocational pupil from Zoetermeer. His father is a police officer. It is believed that the boy was hit by bullets fired by one of his father's colleagues in Delft on Monday morning, AD reports.

A man who was taken to hospital in Zoetermeer with a gunshot wound on Monday morning, succumbed to his injuries, the Public Prosecutor confirmed. The police are investigating whether this man is a suspect the police shot at in Delft on Monday morning, a spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor said to NU.nl.

A 19-year-old man from Delft was shot on Hugo de Grootlaan in Zoetermeer during the early hours of Sunday morning. He was rushed to hospital with unknown injuries. Three suspects were arrested in the hours after the shooting, ANP reports.

The suspects are three men aged 19, 20 and 22, all from Zoetermeer. They are in custody for questioning.

Parts of the Randstad area got more rain on Wednesday than usually falls in the entire month of September. Between 40 and 70 millimeters of rain fell in Zuid-Holland, Noord-Holland and Utrecht on Tuesday, according to Weeronline. Nieuwkoop got a massive 130 mm or rain.

Former Olympian Alan V. from Zoetermeer will stand trial next week for grooming - winning a child's trust in preparation for sexual assault. The 41-year-old man confessed to asking an underage girl for nude films, according to the Public Prosecutor, AD reports.

In 2015 V. approached a then 15-year-old girl under a false name, the Prosecutor said. He asked her to send him videos of herself performing sexual acts, in exchange for reward. "In exchange for your love, you get everything you want", he said to her in one message, according to the Prosecutor.

A police inspector from the Den Haag unit is being prosecuted for selling information from the police systems. According to the Prosecutor, 62-year-old Johannes B. from Zoetermeer sold information related to 40 people, locations and license plates between 2015 and October last year, ANP reports.

Bus drivers faced intimidation during a nationwide regional public transit strike on Wednesday. According to employers association VWOV, drivers who decided to work were faced with striking colleagues taking photos of them and buses buses being blocked at the gate. According to union FNV, it was the other way around and the striking drivers were intimidated, RTL Nieuws reports.

The police arrested an 18-year-old boy at a school on Van Doornenplantsoen in Zoetermeer on Thursday afternoon. The pupil had a gun with him, RTL Nieuws reports.

Officers responded to the school based on a report that a pupil was armed. This turned out to be true. The suspect was arrested without problems. Why he'd taken a gun to school is not clear.

The arrest was made in the afternoon, but the police only announced it on Thursday evening.

The government is planning to close four prisons in the Netherlands, sources told newspaper AD. The prisons need to close because there are too many empty cells in the country, but this will also cause job losses for prison staff.

The prisons in Zoetermeer, Zeist, Almere and Zwaag are on the list to be closed, according to the newspaper. By choosing those prisons, the government hopes to save prisons outside the Randstad, where prison workers will have a harder time finding new work.

The police offered a 30 thousand euros reward for information that leads to the solving of the last year. 49-year-old Rene van Doorn and his 23-year-old son, also called Rene, were gunned down while sitting in their car on the parking lot of a gym in the Zoeterhage industrial complex, ANP reports.

Geert Wilders and his PVV won city council seats seats in each one of the 30 municipalities the party participated in during the municipal elections on Wednesday. In total the PVV currently stands on 74 seats, the Volkskrant reports.

During the previous municipal elections four years ago, the PVV only participated in two municipalities - Almere and The Hague. The party got fewer seats in those two municipalities this time around. In Almere the party dropped from nine to seven seats, and in The Hague from seven to two seats.

The aldermen form the Randstad want more money to be invested for the light rail, the rapid transit railway in the Randstad. If that doesn't happen, they fear that the public transport will be paralyzed within 10 years. 

NOS conducted a study asking the councilors form municipalities in the Randstad how they pictured the development of the light rail. The questions concerned the actual plans and whether the investments by the Rijksoverheid (the central government) behind it were sufficient.

A 46-year-old man from Zoetermeer killed himself and his 4-year-old son by jumping in front of an oncoming train in Haarle, Overijssel on Saturday night, the police said in a statement.

Around 9:30 p.m. the police received a report of a suicide on the rails near Oude Deventerweg in Haarle. A few minutes later a man and his son were reported missing from a vacation home on a bungalow park in the area. At the rails, responding officers found the bodies of a man and a child. They were identified as the two missing from the bungalow park.

A 26-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested for involvement in the murders of a father and son in Zoetermeer in April. A SWAT team arrested the suspect in his home on Tuesday, NOS reports.

The police would not tell the broadcaster exactly what role the man is suspected of playing in the murders.

Traces of the potentially carcinogenic substance GenX were found in the tap water of The Hague, Zoetermeer and Leiden, water company Dunea announced on Tuesday. The company stresses that the concentrations are very low and that the drinking water is still safe, AD reports.

The police in Zoetermeer arrested two boys on Sunday evening for scaring a number of motorists by shooting at them with fake, but real looking, guns, the police said on Twitter.

The two were wearing Guy Fawkes masks, currently better known as Anonymous masks. From a moving car on Bredewater, they pointed and "shot" at other motorists with fake automatic firearms. 

Both boys were are in custody.
