Last year 90.2 percent of 2-year-olds in the Netherlands got their vaccinations, 1,720 toddlers less than in 2016. Only 45 percent of girls were vaccinated against HPV, the virus that can cause cervical cancer, RTL Nieuws and NU.nl report based on the annual figures of public heath institute RIVM.

Syringes of the frequently used Terumo brand could contain epoxy resin, which could unintentionally leak into a patients bloodstream, current affairs program Dossier EenVandaag revealed last night. Based on this information the National Institute for Public Health and Environment (RIVM) launched an investigation and advised against the use of Terumo syringes.

The Minister of Foreign Trade, Lilianne Ploumen, expressed her appreciation and support for Gavi in Berlin today, committing the Netherlands to a quarter-billion euros in support. Gavi, founded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, performs large-scale vaccination programs in developing countries worldwide.

At least 1458 people contracted the measles or still have it, reports the RIVM (Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu) (National Institute for Public Health and Environment) Thursday. Since last week 110 new cases have been reported, more than twice as many as the week before.

The number of new reports of measles is halved the last week compared to the previous week. Last week there were 64 new cases. The week before, that number was still 127. These figures were published on Thursday by the RIVM.

Since May the Netherlands has seen a growing number of measles patients. In total, since May 1226 people were infected with the disease, mostly children between 4 and 12 years.

In the past week the number of patients with measles has increased with 127 new occurrences. The official total of people affected is now 1162.

The number of measles infections has risen again. There are now 466 cases of measles reported and that are 145 more than last week. Compared to last week, there are 5 new hospitalizations added.

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) has signals that in reality there are many more people sick. That's because not everyone visits the doctor.

The measles epidemic is concentrated in the so-called Bible Belt. There are many people of Reformed denomination who don’t go for vaccination because of their faith.

People need to think independently and then make a personal and conscientious consideration about vaccination. That said SGP leader Kees van der Staaij on Monday in the TV program Knevel and Van den Brink. About 60 percent of his followers are vaccinated, he estimated.

Van der Staaij is against forced vaccination. That gives unpleasant situations, he fears, and it works counterproductive. Moreover, 'it enters too deeply into the personal life’, says van der Staaij.
