A lack of available primary school teachers forced the Rudolf Steinerschool in Haarlem to put an early end to its Group 7 class on Thursday. The students from the Waldorf-style education program will be redistributed among similar schools in Haarlem, Hillegom, and Hoofddorp, up to 15 kilometers away.

"We've searched all over the country," said Lida Berkhout, the school's deputy director. "From Groningen to Brabant," she told the Volkskrant.

A prosecutor at the International Criminal Court in The Hague was denied a visa to enter the United States because of her involvement in an investigation into war crimes allegations levied against U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Fatou Bensouda is frequently asked to update the United Nations on ICC cases at the UN headquarters building in New York, reported Reuters.

Bensouda has been investigating possible war crimes in Afghanistan for nearly 18 months. Some of the allegations were connected to people detained in that country and the involvement of Americans in their detention.

Bystanders on the Grote Markt in Den Haag made it difficult for police to help a man who had stabbed himself with a knife, authorities said. Paramedics and officers were trying to reach a victim who had stabbed himself with a knife around 4:40 p.m.

"In the crowd, kids and various people were shooting video of someone who was bleeding profusely," police said. "We had to turn on our sirens at the scene to get the public to move to the side."

Two men were arrested on suspicion of assaulting an elderly man out for a walk Sunday morning. The victim, 80, was kicked and beaten, and he wound up in the hospital with a broken nose.

He went out for a walk near his home in Maassluis, Zuid Holland, when he exchanged words with two men in a parked car. The conversation quickly turned into an argument, leading to the attack.

A pair of hand grenades were discovered in front of a souvenir and water pipe shop in Rotterdam on Saturday. Ten homes were evacuated while the police explosives unit investigated the munitions found in front of Souvenirtje & Meer on Schiedamseweg.

There were no injuries following the 9 a.m. police response. Trams were diverted from the area, and several streets were shut down, police said. The area was reopened at about 2 p.m. when the grenades were safely transported to the national forensics laboratory NFI. They will be examined for trace evidence, police said.

It has to become easier to share information about criminals, regardless of strict privacy rules, Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus of Justice and Security said to the Telegraaf in an interview. His comments were in response to Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb who also raised concerns about this issue.
