The police and fire department suspect that a large wildfire on the Veluwe in Epe on Monday was deliberately lit. Some 100 by 200 meters of heather burned down. A suspect was arrested after a short search. "We had a good description", a spokesperson for the police said to Omroep Gelderland.
A fire truck responding to a wildfire between Baarn and Hilversum, crashed in Baarn on Tuesday. The fire truck collided with a passenger car and landed on its side. A total of five people were hurt, RTL Nieuws reports.
There were two people in the passenger car, and four firefighters in the truck. All four firefighters were taken to hospital, a spokesperson for the fire department said to the broadcaster. One of the people in the passenger car was unhurt, the other was also taken to hospital by ambulance.
A large fire broke out in nature reserve De Soester Duinen on Thursday afternoon. It took the fire department hours to get the wildfire under control. Up to four hectares of forest was burned, the local safety office said, NU.nl reports.
The fire department divided the area into two parts and fought the fire from both sides. Extra fire extinguishers were called in to help. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
People were asked to stay outside the nature reserve while the fire was being fought.
Multiple municipalities in the east of the Netherlands decided to ban the traditional Easter bonfires this weekend. Sparks from the bonfires can lead to wildfires, and due to the drought there is a greater risk of these wildfires spreading rapidly and getting out of control, NU.nl reports.
The number of wildfires in the Netherlands increased significantly this year. So far in 2018 there were already more wildfire reports than there were in the entire 2016 and 2017, according to figures from alarmeringen.nl, RTL Nieuws reports.
In 2016 a total of 1,293 reports were made of forest, heath and other wildfires. In 2017 there were 1,530. The wildfire report counter for this year already stands at 1,728.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima released a statement expressing "enormous sympathy" to those affected by forest fires raging in Greece. So far the fires claimed 60 lives and left some 150 people injured. Whether any Dutch are among the victims is not yet clear, RTL Nieuws reports.
"The raging forest fires in Greece have claimed many victims. We feel enormous sympathy for the victims, their families and those who do not yet know the fate of their loved ones. We share their pain and our thoughts are with them", the Dutch Royals said.
The fire brigades in Noord-Brabant and Limburg had their hands more than full with multiple wildfires on Sunday. The fires were caused by continuing drought in the two provinces, RTL Nieuws reports.
In Budel a large wildfire had fire departments from the entire region busy on Sunday. A drone team was deployed to get a complete picture of the burning area. About 10 hectares burnt down.

Dutch woman Maaike Maks and her family were driving along the Southern California freeway towards Santa Barbara while on holiday on Christmas night when they suddenly found themselves in the middle of a wildfire. She recorded the experience and posted it on social media.
The forest fire near Chaam that started during the weekend and rekindled earlier this week was tamed by the fire brigade. Since last Sunday it was burning in the area of over 60 hectares after a teenager supposedly ignited it. The fire is under control, although smoldering embers are still burning in the area.
