The police broke up a student protest at the University of Amsterdam on Friday night. According to the students, the police used batons, pepper spray and police dogs on them and several students sustained injuries. GroenLinks parliamentarian Zihni Ozdil wants an explanation from Education Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven, Het Parool reports.
Approximately a thousand people joined a new demonstration against the University of Amsterdam following the end of a two month long sit-in protest split between two university buildings. Demonstrators on Monday included students and lecturers marching for "more democracy" at the university, and a demand for the resignation of the the university's Executive Board (CvB).
Another protest has been planned at the University of Amsterdam on Monday afternoon, the group of lecturers involved in the protest actions of the past two months under the name Rethink UvA announced on their website.
