A cruise ship collided with a cargo ship, loaded with cars, on the Waal river near Nijmegen at around 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The passengers were all shaken, but unharmed, according to local safety office Veiligheidsregio Gelderland-Zuid. Public works service Rijkswaterstaat and the fire department evacuated the cruise ship, ANP reports.
A container ship crashed into a railway bridge in Gouda on Sunday. The accident halted train traffic between Gouda and Boskoop on Sunday, and fewer trains will run on this route on Monday, NS reports. The rail company hopes that train traffic will return to normal by 6:30 p.m.
The bridge shifted on its foundation due to the accident, and the safety net is visibly torn. "The bridge is damaged to such an extent that specialized technicians have to take measurements", ProRail said on Sunday.
The Gelderland police are looking for the "hero" who "possibly prevented much suffering" by pulling the emergency brake on an international train after it crashed into a car near Twello on Wednesday. The driver of the car was seriously injured, but the about 400 train passengers remained unharmed.
The shipping traffic between northern Netherlands and Germany came to a standstill after a 112 meter long coaster crashed into the railway bridge near Weener, Germany on Thursday night. The ship is still stuck at the bridge, blocking the way for any water traffic. Rail traffic between Bad Nieuweschans, Groningen and Germany is also down, BNR reports.
Marie-Lou Gregoire of the Groningen Seaport told the broadcaster that the accident was caused by a "miscommunication". A train was coming and the bridge could not be lifted immediately, but the captain of the coaster kept going.
Due to anticipated work on the railway there will be no trains running between Almere and Weesp all day.
