The city of Utrecth decided to move scooters off the bike paths and onto the road starting March next year. This is one of the measures the municipality announced on Thursday to reduce nuisance and pollution caused by scooters and mopeds.

The police protests for a better collective bargaining agreement has cost the treasury at least 70 million euros in uncollected fines. For nearly eight months, police officers have only been writing fines for serious offenses. The decrease can clearly be seen in fines issued for "souped-up" mopeds and scooters, which is down 75 percent.

A tour of five major insurance companies in the Netherlands has revealed that if you ride a Vespa scooter in Amsterdam, chances are it will be stolen. The scooter brand and the city dubbed “Not a happy marriage”. According to one of the insurers, “95 percent of all Vespa’s in Amsterdam are reported stolen within five years”, reports Parool.

Scooters can now be taken off the bicycle paths in municipalities, and scooter owners may be obligated to wear helmets. This comes from a letter by minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen of Infrastructure and Environment, who writes Parliament that the rules are being amended to make room for "local customs."
