Women who work at municipal offices in the Netherlands earned slightly more than their male colleagues for the first time last year. The average gross monthly salary of women came out at 3,679 euros, compared to 3,653 on average for their male colleagues, RTL Nieuws reports based on figures from the annual staff monitor by the A+O fonds Gemeente.

People in the Netherlands often do not get the care they need and are entitled to, National Ombudsman Reinier van Zutphen said in a report about the new healthcare system introduced in the Netherlands in 2015, NOS reports.

The new system gave municipalities more responsibilities when it came to healthcare. The idea behind that was that municipalities know their residents better than the national government, and therefore would also know better what care their residents need.The intent was to make healthcare more accessible and more customizable.

Nearly a quarter of Dutch mayors have been threatened by criminals, according to a survey of 4 thousand mayors, aldermen and officials by Pro Facto on behalf of the Ministry of Security and Justice. The researchers add that there is no sign of large-scale criminal influence on local governments, NOS reports.

An increasing number of children are in need of help from youth care, while half of Dutch municipalities have no more money left in their youth care budget, according to a study by broadcaster NOS and Binnenlands Bestuur among 228 municipalities.

Over three quarters of the municipalities now have waiting lists for youth care, half of the municipalities call these waiting times irresponsible. Three quarters say they've seen an increase in demand for youth care. And 87 percent don't think they'll be able to get by with the youth care budget for next year.

Last year Dutch municipalities spent less money than they received for the first time since 1999, Statistics Netherlands revealed on Monday. The municipalities' total revenues amounted to 53.8 billion euros, and spending came down to 53.6 billion euros, NU.nl reports.
