While the week is starting out chilly with occasional showers, the weather will turn more summery from Wednesday, Buienradar expects. Maximums will start climbing from Wednesday, reaching a summery 27 degrees Celsius by Friday. And while the clouds will not disappear completely, there will be more sunshine.

"It will not be radiantly sunny", meteorologist Arjan Willemse of Buienradar said to RTL Nieuws. "Cloud fields will keep coming, but it will certainly be a lot more summery than now."

Pearlescent clouds

Netherlands residents may wake up to a beautiful purple glow in the sky on Christmas morning. Due to the bitter cold high in the air, pearlescent clouds may form, according to meteorologist Arjan Willemse, RTL Nieuws reports.

"Normally clouds are made of water vapor. Not these clouds. Pearlescent clouds consist of waste products: chlorides that are emitted by us humans. These chlorides are poorly degradable and clump together at extremely low temperatures, which in turn creates pearlescent clouds", Willemse said to the broadcaster.

This week will start out cold and gray in the Netherlands, but warmer weather is ahead. From Wednesday the weather will turn autumn-like. "It can be around 11 to 12 degrees on Thursday and Friday", Buienradar weatherman Arjan Willemse said to RTL Nieuws.
