Locals in Reeuwijk paint zebra crossing for ducklings that cross the road daily
Ducklings in Reeuwijk have started crossing a busy local road daily because of their established location between ditches. In response, residents painted a zebra crossing to help them, according to a local's Facebook post.
The young ducks have grown large enough to explore new territory and now regularly travel from one ditch to another. The increased summer traffic in the area and the ducklings on the road were "a bit nerve-wracking" for residents.
A neighbor suggested creating a zebra crossing. "Easier said than done. With some chalk, a spray can, and a healthy dose of humor, an official duck zebra crossing appeared," the local wrote on Facebook.
Most passersby reportedly react with respect and amusement, patiently letting the ducklings pass. "I wouldn't dare say whether the ducks really know what a zebra crossing is. But people certainly get the message," the local said. "Sometimes it is precisely the small, simple ideas that ensure humans and animals live together just a little more harmoniously. Ducks 1 – Traffic 0."
